MY FINISHED PIECE

S71yiejh6dttqyqi8ef3we1isbtieen5

This is my finished piece in relation to the project we were given.
I became interested in the idea of creating art from a sub concious mind. This lead me to branch off in to different areas such as dreams, hypnosis and meditation.  After investigating I came up with the idea of creating art in response to music. I lost myself in some tribal music and created a painting.
The painting represented different notes and emotions to the music.
I went with quite earthy colours as these were the colours that entered my mind as i listened to the song.
I was quite happy with the finished product I liked the colours and the texture.

in a trance

I really love all of lena karpinskys paintings the bright lights and vivid colours are beautiful. They reminded me of the idea of a trance . The bright lights and the dots.

project:cave art

after watching the bcc documentary I became intrigued by the idea of creating art from a trance.
I started researching different artists who created art from memories and also dreams.
I started of with the idea that I wanted to create art from a dream I tried sketching some dreams that I had but I just felt that it wasn't as 'free' or different like I wanted. I wanted to really let go on this project and create a piece of art that was using my mind and letting go as if I were in a trance.

I remember last year in college doing art from music and I really enjoyed it we responded to the music with marks on a page and it was just so free and unique so I decided to try this for my finished piece.
I put on some tribe indian music and completely lost myself in it.
The result I got from my experimental ones was completely what i was looking for.
I practised a few times testing different colours and techniques
and will be doing my finished piece tomorrow.

Artist statement BRANDED

Qz5jm6zj9gqca5fu8vf1yo0fwtq4wc1x6nfujw05zbeuuggtiokms5kwsyjgmq0kW46iwp4mhq2ouvg6b3q2b7iufqyb8s9d
BRANDED

My piece is based around an article I read on a woman's husband who was mistreated in hospital after suffering severe brain damage following a fatal accident. In his critical condition he was taken full advantage of and  left in horrible conditions such as soiled bedding, unwashed , unfed. Several times his wife had visited he was alone facing the wall.
The piece got me thinking on how a person with brain damage can be mistreated in hospital as they sometimes cannot communicate with the hospital staff.  This man was a prisoner in his own body and his health and well being deteriorated in this hospital which ironically was a rehabilitation unit to help him get better. Furthermore It led me to the aspect of mental health and how they are a vulnerable target for staff to abuse their position.
My painting depicts a man who is branded as mentally ill I used a bold red colour to establish the fact of a stamp as 'branding' as I feel they can be labelled as this and put into this category. It shows his hand reaching out for help but at the same time is giving away his dignity and pride to the receiving hand. He is giving himself over for hep but handing over himself and pride also.  His hand is covering his mouth showing that he is unable to speak his mind.  He has no say on what is going on. The rehabilitation unit in the background is a dark and dull place , I used water colour  splattered in black to represent this gloom. It that does not always a gaurentee help and sometimes you can enter this place and be worse than before.

THE SCIENTIFIC ARTIST

GAIL WIGHT
This was one of the artists from our presentations
I found her very interesting as she was like a scientific artist.
She dealt with subjects like chemistry and biology.
One of her works which interested me the most was solar burn
There was a experiment carried out in 1948 where P.N Witt gave substances to spiders.  These substances included Bezedrine , caffeine, chloral hydrate, lsd, marijuana ,mescaline.

she made drawings of the spiders webs after being administrated with these drugs.
It was interested to see how each drug had a different effect on the spiders.

the lsd apears tobe the one with the most detail .  below.

the marijuana web was scattered an allover the place. likewise with the caffiene none below.

ARTIST MINDMAPS & OTHER PEOPLES PRESENTATIONS

For our assignment we were given an artist and asked to research them without any internet at allll.
This was so hard to do  because the first thing you wanna do is google them! I took out three books in the library on my artist who was.. Gerhard Richter
I didnt know anything about  him only that he was this really rich artist who sold a painting for 25 million or something crazy like that .
So after reading about him I came up with a lot of information.
A lot of his work is abstract which kinda disappointed me as i don't really like that kinda art.
What did interest me about him however was his interest in photography and the photograph.
He loved to use a photograph for his subject rather than a real life subject this was strange because most artists are the oppoisite.
He did a seris of water colours which were again  abstract they were also untitled so it was hard to identify with them.
One of his works i really liked was this....

I loved the effect of the paint and how it just looks like its supposed to be there?
Looks so effortless yet effective.
I tried this out myself for my mindmap I got some old photos and splashed paint on them i found watercolour to work best for this and i think that is what he also used.

OTHER PEOPLES PRESENTATIONS

I really enjoyed watching other peoples presentations it was very intresting to see others take on it.
Some artists stuck in my in my mind rather than others .
One that i liked was Luccii Reii I think thats what her name was,She was a cermaic artist and i liked her work as i like pottery and vases and stuff like that.

Another artist that stuck in my mind was an artist who carried out an experiment on spiders with lsd and found that there webs were not made correctly after this and they died I am definately going to look into these artists and make a blog post on there work :)
